Wye River New Build

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Building this home in Wye River came with its fair share of challenges. The steep gradients, slippery conditions and unpredictable weather all tested the team, while the remote location and narrow streets made the logistics of deliveries and concrete trucks especially difficult. Excavating through rock to prepare the footings added another layer of complexity. Despite this, the stunning coastal views visible throughout the project made each day on site a little easier and lifted the mood of everyone involved.

The ground floor, core-filled block work, rumpus and storeroom were excavated into hill so the main upstairs living and dining had level access from the driveway. The home replaced the original fibro shack that was tragically lost in the December 2015 Wye River, Separation Creek bushfires. Completed in December 2019, the new build is now enjoyed by the owners as both a holiday home and as Airbnb accommodation, something not possible with the old shack.

MGT Building recalls the project fondly, not only for the unique challenges and rewarding outcome, but also for the fantastic working relationship with the clients, who were a pleasure to collaborate with. Wye River remains a special place to work, and this project is still spoken of with pride today. A simple design, “The perfect beach holiday shack” as the clients described it, to replace their well loved fibro shack.
